Tutorial for 5" x 7" Card Box

Published on 31 October 2023 at 09:00

Since next month's Paper Pumpkin's add on is 5 x 7 cards; I thought I would go ahead and create a box this size now.  (Isn't this DSP amazing?  It is called Masterfully Made 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper (Item # 161192)

 Measurements:

Bottom of box:

7 3/8" x 9 3/8" scored at 1" on all four sides

Top of box:

7 3/8" plus 1/16" x 9 3/8" plus 1/16 scored at 1" on all four sides

Optional Cardstock for top and sides of box lid.

Top Layer 1:  5" x 7

Top Layer 2: 4 3/4" x 6 3/4"

Top Layer 3:  4 1/2" x 6 1/2"

If you would like to add a layer to the sides of the box top

Cut 2 at 3/4" x 5"

Cut 2 at 3/4" x 7"

You can also use a circle punch to cut notches in the box top for easy open.

Cutting instructions below.

Step 1:

Cut and miter as shown in picture.  Then fold and burnish all the score lines.

Step 2:

Fold the tabs in and add tear and tape as shown in picture.  Then adhere the tabs to the sides to form the box.  This is the same for both top and bottom of the box.

This box is even more beautiful in person. Thanks for the tutorial! I will be making them to put some of my kids’ Christmas presents in.
