Tuesday Tips & Techniques - Why didn't I think of that?

Hello, my crafty friends!  Do you ever have that moment when you hear, see or read something and you say:  "Why Didn't I think of that?"  I have been crafting a long time but it never fails that I will learn something new.  Don't you just love that?  Over the past week, I have had a few of those moments and I want to share them with you.

TIP 1:

From Sharon @ TXStampin:  Place a silicon mat under your Stampin' Emboss machine to prevent it from sliding when you are cutting.  This really works!

TIP 2:

(I can't remember who shared this tip!)  Use your scoreboard to line up a full front layer or sentiments on your card.  So quick and easy this way.

TIP 3:

One part was from Jackie Bolhuis @ Klompen Stampers and another part is from Justine Hovey.  Each had cool ideas for making layers/finding center points.  So I put both ideas together to make my own templates to help with card front layer measurements.

I cut the following layers (leaving 8ths between each layer):

4 1/8" x  5 3/8"

4" x 5 1/4"

3 7/8" x 5 1/8"

3 3/4" x 5"

3 5/8" x 4 7/8"

3 1/2" x 4 3/4"

3 3/8" x 4 5/8"

3 1/4" x 4 1/2"

Next, I found center both vertically and horizontally and cut triangle notches on the template.  Finally, at the center point of base I poked a hole with my take your pick tool.  Now with any size layer I use, I can easily place a tick mark dead center, center vertically or horizontally without having to measure each and every time!  What a time saver!

BONUS:  If you don't like finding 8ths on the ruler/trimmer.  You now have a template to assist you for each sized layer.

Thank you to all that share their tips and tricks to make card making such an enjoyable experience!  You all rock!

Creatively,

Laura
